Betty - Such a gentle and sensitive soul

Introducing Betty…..

Arrived in foster in Suffolk on 27th January 2025

When we met Betty on our last trip we immediately fell in love with her. She had such sad eyes and seemed so worried of absolutely everything. She had led such a sheltered life, it was going to be a challenge to introduce her to the outside world. But we wanted to show her that the world can be a wonderful place so made the decision to bring her to the UK. Betty will need a quiet and patient home but in time she will love you to the moon and back.

From her foster mum:

Darling Betty

This beautiful girl is making quiet but steady progress every single week. It was slow going to start with, but with patience, love and kindness, Betty is slowly learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

I never rush her. Everything we’ve done has been on her terms — and she’s responded so well to being given that space. She still needs that ongoing patience and understanding to continue blossoming, but my goodness, what a difference she’s already made.

Betty has gone from a timid little loner to a total lovebug. Yes, sudden noises can still make her jump, but underneath it all she’s the gentlest, most affectionate soul. Despite everything she’s been through, she has never once shown any anger or aggression — just a quiet hopefulness and a heart full of love.

She still watches the world carefully during the day, especially when it’s busy — but in the evenings, once I sit down with my dogs, she snuggles in beside me. She’ll look into my eyes until she falls asleep, and just recently, after three whole months, she’s finally relaxed enough to sleep on her back with her legs all floppy. A real sign she’s starting to feel safe.

And then there’s the lead. Oh, how far we’ve come. It used to be such a struggle, but now she recognises it as the start of something wonderful. She sits quietly, waiting for me to clip it on, and when we head out in the car she always leans forward and gently kisses my cheek — as if to say, “thank you for showing me a world I didn’t know existed.” She absolutely loves her walks now. You can see the delight shining in her eyes.

She travels beautifully in the car, loves her food, and is even learning how to share. She’s still a little clumsy at times, but never anything but gentle. This week she’s started to greet me with excitement, and I’m beginning to see a playful side peek through — it’s early days, but it’s coming.

Betty is now running free in safe spaces — the beach, open fields — and it fills me with joy to watch her enjoy just being a dog. She’s so grateful, and she has that special something all rescue dogs have… the kind of love that comes from knowing how hard life once was, and how much better it’s become.

The bond you build with a rescue dog is like no other. They don’t just love you — they adore you. You become their world. And when Betty looks at you, it’s as if she’s trying to say a thousand thank-yous all at once. It truly makes your heart sing.

She will be the most devoted, loyal family dog for someone — and I will miss her gentle soul more than I can say.

Darling Betty, you deserve the very best life has to offer. And that is exactly what I wish for you.

Her Story

Betty was found as a very young puppy with her sister Emma. The lady who found them put them in her yard with her other dogs but tragically Emma was killed.

Betty has lived nearly all her life in a yard with lots of dogs, without experiencing the outside world. Recently when we found little Elsie half dead by the side of the road, dear Betty was the one to donate her blood. She saved Elsie’s life. After a few days of rest Betty returned to her yard but sadly was attacked by the other dogs. Of course she could not remain there. Since then she has been living in the apartment with the lady who found her but she could not stay there.
